New Zealand and Conkbayiri Atatürk Memorials on Chunuk Bair

enlarge icon

The New Zealand Memorial and the Conkbayiri Atatürk Memorial. The former is in the form of a 20.5 m high Greek cross. On it are inscribed the words: 'IN HONOUR OF THE SOLDIERS OF THE NEW ZEALAND EXPEDITIONARY FORCE 8TH AUGUST 1915 "FROM THE UTTERMOST ENDS OF THE EARTH"'. It is the site of the official New Zealand Anzac Day ceremony each 25 April. Scrolling right, Hill 971 lies behind the trees. The New Zealand Chunuk Bair Memorial to the Missing lies just to the right of the trees. Looking through the trees to the right of the memorial to the missing are the road and, to its right, the site of the New Zealand trenches from August 1915.

Panorama help
Once the movie downloads (about 1-2 mins on a 56k dial-up connection) you can move around inside the image with your mouse pointer, click and drag to explore. If the question mark symbol in the grey bar is highlighted you can click on it to see hotspot links. These are either in the form of roll-over text (an empty circle appears when rolling over) or links to other panoramas (a small globe appears when rolling over). The + and - are to zoom in and out. This panorama requires QuickTime 5 or later to view.
